Scent Stands
Scent stands can be used for imprint training alongside carousels and scent boxes. They are a very useful tool in the arsenal of equipment used by any trainer.
Scent stands can be used in a linear form or provide random search patterns depending upon the choice of the stand. Scent stands can be used for analysing the presents of many types of odours.
Medical detection stands used in a linear format under controlled conditions are proving to be a useful tool in the detection of the Covid virus.
The linear stand is an extension of the NATO carousel using the same scent pots and lids on a double-ended stand. In military and conflict zones the linear stand can be used to top up carousel training in an operational environment. Border control uses them in a larger format for searching passengers and luggage.
NCTAS or ID stands constructed for the odour ID test consists of 8 stands. Set out in a linear format the dog and handler must walk the line and identify the container which holds the target odour. All detection Dogs accredited by NCTAS will be assured that they are performing at a standard that is nationally recognised by the UK government.

Types of Scent Stands
Chock Floor Stands NATO Pot
These chock floor stands are commonly used with our portable carousel and NCTAS floor stands using standard lids or clip-retaining lids.
They are made from heavy gauge stainless steel and hold the scent pot firmly on the floor. This allows the pots to be spaced in linear or random patterns to create various search patterns.
Easy to clean and sterilise in a dishwasher.
Chock Floor Stands Small Pot
Chock floor stands are designed to hold the small FS range of scent pots commonly used on our 8-arm NCTAS carousel and NCTAS floor stands.
They are made from heavy gauge stainless steel and hold the scent pot firmly on the floor. This allows the pots to be spaced in linear or random patterns to create various search patterns.
Easy to clean and sterilise in a dishwasher.
NATO Linear Stands
The liner stands work in exactly the same fashion as the NATO carousel and benefits from the same scent pot and lid. These parts are fully interchangeable with each other.
The Linear stand has the same lid retention system that firmly holds the lid onto the scent pot and prevents the dog from removing the contents.
Normally supplied as a set of 6 boxes they can be placed to form random search patterns and easily moved from location to location.
NATO Chock Stand
These NATO chock stands uses the same retention system as the NATO carousel. They are designed to hold the NATO scent lids (with pegs) in place and stop removal.
Using this system allows the scent lids to be used universally between carousel and floor stands, without the need for different lids.

Medical Detection Stands
Medical detection dogs or bio-detection dogs are trained to detect the smallest odours with concentrations, around one part per trillion.
Working with registered charities such as Medical Detection Dogs we have helped design analysis stands for medical conditions such as breast cancer, Prostate Cancer, Bowel Cancer, Malaria and Parkinson’s and most recently coronavirus.
The stand comprised of essentially two parts the stand and arm with a choice of three different types of guard plate, slotted plates, cross wires or inverted pepper pots. It’s important to have spare arms to make sterilising and changing between odours easier. The choice of the arm is completely preferenced and they are all designed to allow the dog to get his nose as close to the sample as possible without him being able to lick the sample.
The stands are made completely from stainless steel and fully welded to prevent ingestion of fluids and cross-contamination. They are designed to be removed and fit into most autoclaves for sterilising.
An optional focus cone is available which has been ergonomically designed to get the nose as close as possible to the sample and amplify the odour drawn from within the sample.
UKBA Linear Stands
UKBA linear scent detection stands provide two training functions in one piece of apparatus. Overhead scent detection and luggage detection.
The principle design is based on the original NATO linear stand. Utilising the same scent pot, lid and unique lid retention system. This has allowed parts to be interchangeable with the UKBA /RAF carousel.
The scent pot assembly on this stand can be removed from the horizontal beam and repositioned at 90 or 180 degrees. The beam can then be raised vertically up to a maximum height of 2m above the ground. This allows the odour plume to be altered in direction and training based on different odour gradients. Ideal for detection training for overhead odours.
The second function of this stand allows hand luggage to be hung across the horizontal beam, which is designed to take up to 10 kilos balanced on each side. This offers an ideal platform for luggage detection training.
NCTAS ID Stands Small Pot

These floor stands are made from clear polycarbonate measuring 1 meter long by 120mm wide and will accept our small FS range of scent pots.
There are a range of accessories which we have developed to enhance the use of these stands. Including joiners which stop the stands from moving out of alinement.
The NCTAS test consists of eight plastic floor-mounted stands placed in a line. Each stand contains a stainless steel scent pot and lid spaced at 100cm intervals. This distance allows for large targets to be used without any interference between adjacent samples.
All detection Dogs accredited by NCTAS will be assured that they are performing at a standard that is nationally recognised by the UK government.
The NCTAS is a comprehensive scheme being rolled out under the Home Office initiative covering canine training, welfare, and accreditation procedures, which are developed in collaboration with the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC), UK Border Force, National Offender Management Service and the Royal Army Veterinary Corps.
NCTAS is being developed for use with detection Dog organisations in both public and eventually private sectors in the UK.

REST Analysis Stands

The REST filter is then taken to an analysis room away from the consignment and place in one of seven analysis stands. A search dog will interrogate the samples under controlled conditions. Provided the dog has not indicated on any of the samples, the agent will receive a statement from the REST operator claiming the shipment to be free from explosives.
The REST analysis stand is made in two sections. The bottom floor-mounted section is bolted to the floor while the top section can be removed and placed in any position within the line of stands.
The training programme takes place by removing the target stand and placing it in different positions within the line, while the dog and handler remain behind a screen to avoid any influences from the handler.
These stands can be used in the same manner for any application i.e detecting narcotics, biomedical, bedbugs etc. Conveniently modified for any sample.
