Why Choose Us?

With nearly five decades of experience in the design and development of surgical and scientific instruments. Our experience was instrumental in the design and development of the carousel scent wheel for military working dogs in the UK.

Our canine scent detection products are used by the police forces, boarder agency and private security companies. They are precision engineered and made from the highest quality stainless steel.

All our carousels are sterilisable and come with a 2 – 5 year manufacturer’s guarantee and not to be confused with cheap Aluminum versions. They will give you many years’ service and save you time and money.

We work with many design organisations and government agencies to ensure our products meet the highest standards.

Our products can be tailored to meet your individual needs and we can offer help and advice to achieve your training needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here we will try and answer some of the most commonly asked questions.

Yes, All our products are designed and made by ourselves and you can buy directly from the manufacturers.
Yes, on some products others made to order

Yes, we can design and build a specialist piece of equipment to suite your personal needs.

Delivery time depends on if we have the products in stock 48 hours if we do and 6-8 weeks lead time if out of stock
Guarantees Carousels 2-5 years others 12 months
Our carousel scent wheel is made completely from stainless steel and fully welded to avoid scent traps and crevice corrosion.

Our competitors are made from Aluminum including the scent pots and lids. These scent pots are held horizontally and not vertically like our own. This creates a problem because the centrifugal force will push the contents toward the perforated lid during rotation making detection far easier!

Certain substances will also corrode the Aluminum fairly rapidly and any products held together with nuts and bolts create scent traps and promotes crevice corrosion.

Yes, We can deliver to the US and most parts of the globe.
There are three principal differences between the two.

1) The NATO carousel is completely made fro stainless steel. The portable carousel has stainless steel arms, pots and lids with a mild steel powder coated chassis.

2) The NATO carousel if full height adjustable. While the portable has two fixed height positions suitable for medium and large Dogs.

3) The NATO carousel has a lid retention system that stops the Dog removing the scent lid during interrogation. The Portable carousel has a push-fit lid only.

Yes. We stock parts for all our products and they can be purchased from ourselves.

Ken’s Profile

Ken is highly experienced professional engineer, incorporated with the Engineering Council and a member of the Institute of Engineering Technology. With nearly 5 decades of expertise in designing and developing surgical, scientific and security products, his career has been marked by pioneering innovations.

His industry contributions include the development of the first cold-light Paediatric Laryngoscope for Great Ormond Street Hospital, the design of personal security mirrors for Members of Parliament during the London IRA bombings, and the advancement of robotic mine disposal equipment.

In 2002, Ken founded Central Engineering Design Ltd, bringing his extensive expertise into the new era of product development. Since its conception, the company has been at the forefront of engineering excellence, delivering cutting-edge solutions tailored to security, medical and defence applications. One of his early projects involved designing a vacuum pump and filter holder for vapour capture in airfreight security. Leveraging his knowledge of anaesthetic systems, he went on to design and patent the first electric vacuum pump for the REST system, collaborating closely with the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) and the Department of Transport (DFT).

During the Afghanistan conflict – following the events of 9/11 – in response to the increasing threat of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) targeting NATO forces, Ken was approached by the Defence Animal Centre (DAC) to developed specialised canine training equipment. Using his expertise in stainless steel and surgical instruments, he designed a 12-arm scent detection carousel and linear stand, which were awarded NATO stock numbers, this system was rapidly deployed by the British forces, significantly improving their ability to detect explosive threats and save lives. Today, these training systems have become standard across Law enforcement agencies, Border Security teams, Customs authorities and correctional services.

Ken’s reputation for innovation and quality led to further groundbreaking work in medical detection research. Under Central Engineering Design Ltd he was commissioned to develop a modular training stand with interchangeable heads to assist in canine detection of medical conditions such Leukaemia and Prostate Cancer. This innovation later became instrumental in training detection dogs to identify COVID-19 virus during the global pandemic, further demonstrating the company’s impact on life-saving technologies and innovations.

Committed to advancing scent detection technology, Ken and his team continue to develop cutting-edge solutions that enhance canine olfaction for security, medical and defence applications.
