About Scent Boxes
Scent boxes and carousels are used for imprint training. The principle difference is scents boxes can be placed in random search patters in different terrains. They work hand in hand with the carousel training and offer the trainer variety in the training program.
Imprint training may start with a piece of tennis ball hidden inside a training box alongside the target odour. Very soon the dog will associate the reward with the target.
A lot of trainers use training boxes with puppies and younger dogs. Generally, these devices are much lower to the ground and work well with young animals. This can also help lead young dogs into carousel training.
Training boxes also help to introduce background smells away from the compound or general training area when taken in operational search environments.

Different Types of Scent Box
Baffle Scent Box

This is a heavyweight box ideal for imprint training with a hidden reward and easy to associate the reward with the target odour within this device.
Made completely from stainless steel and incorporating a hidden baffle at the rear to hide. This device can’t be knocked over easily!
The boxes can be used to desensitise odours that can influence operational searches. Interference odours can also be placed behind the baffle with the target to improve interrogation.
Normally supplied as a set of 6 boxes they can be placed to form random search patterns and easily move from location to location.
HGV Scent Box
We developed this compact device working in conjunction with a private security company for the detection of migrants hiding in hard-sided lorries entering the UK.
When the probe is placed under the curtain or door of a vehicle where scents have accumulated the scent gets drawn downstream into an expansion chamber within a box and exists through a cone enabling the dog to detect odours coming from within the vehicle.
This is a minimal evasive device that does not require entry into the vehicle. Particularly with hardback Lorries where it is more difficult to check with C02 meters and X-ray becomes more expensive.
This is a silent running low-pressure device that remotely draws air into an expansion chamber downstream of the probe. This low-pressure device creates slow movement of air into a container with a minimal amount of compression and distortion.
