Multi Function Carousel

Our Multi-Function Carousel was developed in collaboration with Border Force to support advanced scent-detection training, particularly for smaller breeds such as spaniels.

The unit measures 4 m in overall diameter (without walking boards) and 3.4 m internal diameter, with a working height of just 40 cm. It is powered by three high-torque geared DC motors and a rechargeable 24 V LiFePO4 battery, offering 4–5 hours of operating time and recharging fully in approximately 2 hours.

Designed for maximum versatility, the carousel features interchangeable scent boxes and walking boards:

Scent Boxes: A set of 20 boxes in two styles—one designed to accept NATO-standard scent pots, and a universal version capable of holding postal items or hand luggage. The universal boxes can also be converted into focus walls.
Walking Boards: These create a rotating platform that realistically simulates a baggage carousel or postal conveyor. The low 40 cm height allows small dogs to easily jump on and work against the flow of moving items, mirroring real operational conditions. Speed and direction are fully adjustable, with a maximum speed of 30 m/min.

Multi Function Carousel for Scent Detection Training

Each scent box is a moving target that locks securely onto the track using four precision dowel pegs on its base. These engage with numbered dowel positions (1–20) on the track, ensuring correct spacing and stable rotation. Boxes can be quickly repositioned or reversed to face inward or outward, offering complete flexibility in training setups.

The control console is tethered to the carousel via an umbilical cord and mounted on casters for easy placement. It provides forward and reverse control, variable speed adjustment for the walking boards, and a jog function ideal for imprinting sessions where controlled movement of scent pots is required.

After 12 months of development, the Multi-Function Carousel is available on a build-to-order basis and can be customised to meet individual operational needs—including additional features such as soil buckets or manikins.
